Using LinkedIn
Why did you do this?
Because keeping up to date with RSS is easier than constantly opening into LinkedIn.
How often is this updated?
It grabs the content (questions) from Linkedin RSS every 60 minutes, and then grab the content (answers) from Linkedin website once an hour for the moment.
Please ( if you know how to ) set your RSS reader not to update more frequently than that.
What are your plans with it?
Most of the time, I'm watching for a keyword. I'm planing to add search by keyword feature - customized RSS feed of all Linkedin Question and Answers where given keyword is found.
How did you do this?
With a very short, badly written bit of PHP. Take a look at PHP to learn about it.
Legal Note
The content for these RSS feeds is lifted directly from linkedin.com and therefore copyright LinkedIn Corporation. I have built these feeds only as a helpful service to those people who already have access to this content through their own linkedIn accounts. Therefore, please don't distribute the link to this page to anyone outwith LinkedIn's network for now.
What is all this RSS nonsense anyway?
I've no idea... try Google
Doesn't LinkedIn mind?
I don't know but the copyright issue aside I would hope not.
Why?
Because it works to their advantage to have me read their site once an hour and you lot reading the RSS's of our server... It saves them all that bandwidth... and therefore money.
Why have the feeds stop working?
It's entirely possible that LinkedIn won't take kindly to my RSS'ifying of their Answers section and ask me to cease and desist. In which case your feeds may stop working. I appologise in advance if that happens.
I've got a suggestion! / It's broken! / Why can't you 'xyz'?
I'd love any suggestions, feedback etc.. You can find me on Linkedin or via email
P.S.1. Who or what has inspired you?
I was inspired by Jim Morrison's website.
P.S.2. Are you mashing several different linkedin users' feeds in this mashup? If not then it should be noted that this aggregated feed is subjective to your network on linkedin.
This is a mashup of publicly available Linkedin RSS feed and publicly available Linkedin website. It has nothing to do with user's feed and 3 degrees of connections. Every Linkedin user can see all the questions and as well all answers.
P.S.3. Again legal stuff - Disclaimer
Edgehunt Mashup of LinkedIn RSS Feeds and web sites are independent resources for users of the LinkedIn networking service, and are not affiliated with or endorsed by LinkedIn. LinkedIn, LinkedIn.com, and affiliated images and trademarks are copyrighted and owned by LinkedIn Corporation.
